The company A/S was founded on 9. December 1933. At a time where most of the world was characterised by depression and uncertainty, a circle of skilled and visionary businessmen saw the benefits and opportunities of forming an association with the primary purpose of ensuring the participating companies privileges of purchasing directly from the cartels existing in Europe during that era.
The concept turned out to be viable. New business partners joined, cooperation grew strong, and the scope of activities increased.
In the years after World War II, Denmark saw a continuous growth in wealth. Construction experienced an up-turn, and a fast-growing need for new forms of heating and modern bathroom facilities quite naturally resulted in the wholesalers and thus DJ expanding their scope of activities to also include plumbing and heating articles.
Over the recent decades, the company has expanded within particularly special tools and technical articles, and the areas of expertise today include plumbing and heating, steel and other metals as well as tools and technical articles.
At the beginning of the new millennium, it was decided to change the company’s internal structure and establish three divisions (Plumbing and heating, Steel and Tools/technical articles) with each their product manager in order to increase the focus on the individual product areas.
To mark the development of the company, Dansk Jerncentral A/S has decided to change its name to DJ Supply A/S effective as of January 1, 2014.
Digitisation
In recent years, DJ has been focusing a lot on digitisation. Thus, DJ is connected to its members and suppliers via EDI (Electronic Data Integration) to achieve efficient data exchange, increased data security and to reduce risk of manual errors.
Product database improvement has been made with a PIM platform to make processing of product data from suppliers more efficient and subsequently to be able to distribute updated product information to the ERP systems and web shops of the members.
Furthermore, DJ invites the members to participate in a joint web shop platform. This joint platform is only related to the technical backend solution, which each member individually is free to use with their own profile, products, and prices. The intention is to enable the members to better serve their customers through a modern web shop.
